Google Chrome

Google realized that we all spend a lot of time working within browsers. People chat, e-mail and collaborate within a browser and in our spare time we shop, bank, read news and keep in touch with friends all by using browsers. Because of the large amount of time people spend using browsers Google began to seriously think about what kind of browser could exist if they started from scratch and built on the best elements available. What Google figured out they needed was not just a browser, but also a modem platform for web pages and applications, and that's what they set out to build.
Google Chrome can be summed up as clean and fast, it gets out of your way and gets you where you want to go. What Google was able to build was the foundation of a browser that runs today's complex web applications much better. Each tab in Google Chrome is isolated and this prevents one tab from crashing another and provides improved protection from rogue sites. Speed and responsiveness were greatly improved with this application and Google also built a V8, a more powerful javascript engine, to power the next generation of web applications that aren't even possible in today's browsers.

Solar Power on the Front Lines

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) Advanced Power Generation Future Naval Capabilites program has introduced technology designed to harness some of the sunlight that beats down upon U.S. Marines operating in the Arabian Desert. Fueled by the sun, the Ground Renewable Expeditionary ENergy System (GREENS) is portable, 300W, photovoltaic/battery system that provides continuous power to marines in the field. This technology will be of great benefit to the military so that power will never be an issue in saving and benefitting the lives of those who defend our country.
